Story Of Varsha Mahor

This is a story of a Nanhi Kali in Sheopur district in Madhya Pradesh. Madhya Pradesh was never enriched with the education of women. It is just the matter of past 10 years. Most of the girls studied only till 5th standard. But an ambitious step from Naandi to empower girl child in the last few years has seen some good results in many different ways. Varsha Mahor is one such story for Project Nanhi Kali.

 Varsha Mahor (ID – 1000069084) sponsored by Capgemini Australia Pvt LTD. is a 16 year old girl from Birpur village. Her family comprises of her father Mr. Devicharan, mother Kashi, three sisters and two brothers. Their annual income is within Rs 150000. Her father is the secretary of Gramin society and works as an agriculture labourer.

In Birpur village, the biggest issue is child marriage. The villagers believe that a girl should get married before the age of 13 and her duties include cooking food and looking after her family. Whereas the boys are considered more important as they will be the future job holders. There are also various other social discriminations as well. But Varsha Mahor stands out from all. She is the girl with a different perception who fought with the situation and convinced her parents the importance of education with the support of Naandi Staff. She has cleared the Class X Board Examinations with flying colors. She secured 85% from Sheopur district. Her parents are very happy and proud of Varsha now and their views have changed as well.

Varsha has been a Nanhi Kali for the last 5 years. She has attended almost 3360 hours of tuition support that focused on: academic support for all 6 subjects, awareness on health and hygiene, personality development and career counseling.

Varsha Mahor is now a role model for the other girls who are Nanhi kalis. She is the first girl in the history of Beerpur village in Sheopur district who has secured 85% in her 10th board exams. She has achieved distinction in all six subjects.

Her favourite subject is Math and she wants to become a doctor in future. Team Nanhi Kali is all set to provide her appropriate guidance and support in getting ahead.
