Kavitha is an effervescent Nanhi Kali who studies in IVth Standard in PUM Varaganapalli Middle School in Varaganapalli of Kelamangalam mandal. Her father K. Narashiman is a construction worker. A family of four children, Kavitha is the third child, with a brother and sister elder to her and a younger brother who goes to primary school.
Kavitha has a skin allergy problem throughout her body, which had resulted in her withdrawing herself in a shell. In school she was gradually minimizing her interactions with others and was reluctant to participate in anything. Her low confidence level and extreme bashfullness was resulting in poor attendance and participation in class. The Nanhi Kali team provided her with academic support and encouraged her to be regular in school. The grouping system in the Academic Support Centre helped her to participate more and gradually open up. Nanhi Kali tutor Mrs. Kasturi took special effort in instilling confidence in her by giving moral support as well as special attention to her. There was a marked improvement in her listening, reading and writing skills.
Kavitha’s mother Muniyamma is the happiest with her daughter’s progress. The Nanhi Kali programme has not only helped her economically, but also has given a tremendous academic and moral boost. She is very happy that her daughter now mingles with other children. Kavitha’s behaviour, level of reading and studying have gone high up the scale. She specially thanks the Nanhi Kali programme and the Nanhi Kali tutor for her daughter’s remarkable all round progress.
