This is the story of Nanhi kali A.Nirmala from Srinivasapuram of Thally mandal. She studies in Vth standard in the PUMS Then Dinnur school. Her father Annamalai is a coolie and supports the family with his meager income. She is the middle child in the family with one elder brother who studies in 6th Std and a younger sister who studies in 3rd std.
Nirmala has battled the problem of being physically challenged from her birth and this has caused a lot of difficulty in her life. She finds it difficult to sit and focus on reading which led to irregular attendance in school. Nirmala, however has not let these challenges come in the way of her exuberant spirit and she remains a very playful child.
Ever since the academic support center in her school was started by the Nanhi Kali team, Nirmala has been regularly attending the same. The Nanhi Kali tutor Mrs Vasantha pays special attention to Nirmala and has been a great source of strength and support to the child. This constant care and attention has helped improve Nirmala’s discipline of sitting in the class room as well as her listening, reading and writing skills. Nirmala’s attendance in school has also now steadily increased with her academic attendance in 2014-15 going up to an impressive 94%.
Nirmala’s mother Puttamma is happy with the financial and academic support Nirmala has received from the Nanhi Kali program. More importantly, her mother is particularly thankful for Nanhi Kali’s intervention that has helped Nirmala lead a normal childhood by mingling freely with other children. We wish Nirmala a happy carefree childhood and a successful life ahead.
