Arina Khan is an effervescent Nani Kali who studies in IVth standard in Marvali Urdu School in Chembur East, Mumbai. A happy go lucky child who is always smiling, Arina takes active interest in studies for excellent academic results and carries out her duties and responsibilities well in the home front.
Her father Isharat Khan runs a tea stall which yields between Rs. 700 to 1000/- every day. Her mother while being a house wife, also helps her husband often in running the tea stall. Arina has four siblings – 2 elder brothers and 2 sisters. Arina’s elder sister got married immediately after schooling. Her elder brother is helping his parents and contributes to the household expenses by working in a grocery shop.
Besides studies, Arina’s main interests include drawing and sports. She excels in everything she takes up and enthusiastically participates in drawing and sports competitions. She secured A+ grade in school and scored 97% in class III annual examination. Her favourite subject is Urdu and she wants to become a language teacher when she grows up.
Since her parents and siblings are not learned and equipped to provide her with academic support, Arina regularly attends school and NK class. Her ASC attendance last year was 94% and in this year till oct 2014 her average attendance is 84%. She is leader of attendance committee as her attendance in school and in ASC is the highest.
Because of NK program, in addition to academic support, Arina is getting support for all-round development. The NK club provides varied opportunities for her to participate in extracurricular activities organized by the club on a periodic basis. Nanhi Kali will continue to nurture Arina to ensure she continues to get the support and encouragement to succeed in all walks of life.
