Anita Kumari Meena who is currently in class XI, attends the Dr. B R Ambedkar Residential Model School in Khodan, Banswara district. Her family has 7 members and they are supported by her father, Mr. Narayan Lal Meena who is a farmer. Her mother, Sita Devi is a homemaker and her siblings are still in school.
Anita’s father has faced extreme difficulty in generating sufficient income to meet the needs of his family, even though he occasionally engages in additional daily wage labour occupations in addition to his farming. Therefore, even though Anita had shown an evident improvement in her performance in her Academic Support Centre as well as in her school and managed to score 56% in her class X exams, she had to drop out of school after class X as her father could not afford her education anymore.
The Nanhi Kali Coordinator learnt of Anita’s situations during one of her regular home visits. He decided to interfere in the matter and provided details of a test to qualify for a Model School sponsorship programme called for families belonging to the BPL category. He convinced Anita’s parents to allow her to attempt the qualification exam and to everybody’s delight, Anita cleared the exam and was selected into the sponsorship programme in B R Ambedkar Residential Model School where she joined in class XI. The school provides her with dress, study materials, travel allowance, sports materials, etc. Her family is extremely grateful to the Nanhi Kali team for all the support they have shown to their daughter. They are glad that Anita got the opportunity to study further and that their financial constraints did not put a stop on her chance to gain a quality education.
