This is the story of a Nanhi Kali Coordinator, Suseela from Santhavalasa village of Dumbriguda Mandal, Araku. Suseela lost her father in 2003 and since then, her mother Mrs. B Subbalakshmi who earns her livelihood from the small hotel she runs. She has three siblings out of which her eldest sister is married.
Having no other source of income, Suseela’s mother struggled to provide for her children. However, she did not want to compromise on their education, even though she didn’t have the sufficient means to support the same. Suseela’s enrolment into project Nanhi Kali in 2005 when she was in class VII was a huge financial relief for her family. Suseela was a very active and diligent child who showed a great deal of interest in her academics and attended her classes regularly. She also managed to score 430 marks in her class X examinations.
Suseela joined the Government Junior College in Dumbriguda Mandal where she selected Biology-Physics-Chemistry as her specialization. She then completed her degree from Swami Vivekananda Degree College in Srungavarapu Kota. She joined as a tutor in TWAG High School, Dumbriguda as part of the Nanhi Kali project after her college and contributed to the family income from whatever she earned. She performed excellently as a tutor and went on to become a Nanhi Kali Coordinator in the Dumbriguda Mandal area. She did not let her financial difficulties stop her education, and is now working towards promoting education among other children like her.
