This is the success story of Lankapalli Sandya Priyanka, an alumnus of ProjectNanhi Kali who is currently working as an Assistant Engineer (Civil sector) in the Municipal Corporation. She comes from a middle class family consisting of her mother, Rukmini and her sister. Sandya lost her father in 2012, and since then Rukmini has been supporting the family solely with the income she earns from the pan shop that she manages. Her sister worked as a Community Activist for two years before she got married. They live in Santhavalasa village of Dumbriguda Mandal, Araku.
Sandya Priyanka became a Nanhi Kali in 2006 and she stayed in the project for three years. She was a studious child who attended her classes regularly. Sandya always made time to help her mother in the pan shop after school hours and she used all the free time she got to concentrate on her academics. In class IX, she secured the Best Student Award and in class X she secured an impressive score of 503 which got her selected for the C M R Pratibha Award in 2010.
Sandya got admission in Nujiveedu Campus for IIIT (B Tech Civil Branch) in the year 2010. Although language was a major hurdle for Sandya as she is from a Telegu medium school, she did not let it stand in between her dreams of becoming an engineer. Her hard work and diligence earned her 7.3 points for her project work and 7.5 points in her B Tech degree. She secured a job with the government and is currently working as an Assistant Engineer in Panchayati Raj, Municipal Corporation Department.
Sandya had always dreamed of becoming an engineer, and she is extremely grateful to Project Nanhi Kali for helping her in achieving her goal. Sandya is, however, not one to be content with just one dream. Her next goal in life is to clear the civil service examinations and she has already begun her preparations to become an IAS officer.
