Project Nanhi Kali partners with Grace Polycarp Foundation

We are delighted to have the Grace Polycarp Foundation partnering with Project Nanhi Kali for providing support to underprivileged girls in Mumbai, Maharashtra. We believe that educating a girl, leads to an overall improvement in the quality of life not just for the girl child, but also her family.

Project Nanhi Kali is the flagship programme of K.C. Mahindra Education Trust. Since inception, it has reached out to over 350,000 girls and is currently supporting over 150,000 Nanhi Kalis across India. The Grace Polycarp Foundation is a philanthropic venture by the family of late Ms. Grace Polycarp, an educationist all her life, whose philosophy was that education leads to empowerment and creates opportunities for improvement in life skills from a young age.

Project Nanhi Kali has provided 360-degree educational support to disadvantaged girls from Class 1-10. The intervention includes academic support, every school day, through Nanhi Kali Academic Support Centres, where trained tutors engage the girls in concept based learning. In addition, a school supplies kit including a school bag, stationery, notebooks, feminine hygiene material and a pullover/raincoat depending on the seasonal needs of the location, is provided to every Nanhi Kali, every year, thereby allowing her to attend school with dignity. The project also works extensively with parents and communities to sensitise them on the importance of sending their girls to school. A recent addition to the project has been the introduction of digital tablets, preloaded with engaging audio-visual education content for secondary school girls.

The issue of Equal Rights in education of the girl child in India needs to be addressed, and in Grace Polycarp Foundation, we have found a wonderful supporter of Project Nanhi Kali, to further the cause.
