TCL TEAM VISITS NANHI KALI PROJECT AREA IN RAJASTHAN

As a mark of solidarity with the Nanhi Kali program, Mr. Ashwini Hiren, Head - Consumer Products Business, Tata Chemicals Limited and Mr. Anand Sinha, Marketing Division, Tata Chemicals Limited visited Medi village in Kotra Block, Udaipur district on 7th April 2008 to distribute Kits to the Nanhi Kalis supported by TCL. They were accompanied by Ms. Sheetal Mehta, Executive Director, K C Mahindra Educational Trust (KCMET) Mumbai.

At village Medi the guests were warmly welcomed by the community leaders and Nanhi Kalis in a traditional Tribal way. After garlanding and applying "Tilak" the guest were welcomed to Govt. Upper Primary School in the village where the team spent some time discussing various issues with community leaders, school staff and Naandi Foundation representatives. All Project Nanhi Kali beneficiaries in this area belong to socially backward scheduled tribes, whose parents are literally struggling to make ends meet by working as landless labourers, earning less than Rs.15000/- per annum and for whom Project Nanhi Kali through TCL's support is providing significant assistance in ensuring that their girl children get an education.

This was followed by A Nanhi Kali talents day meet scheduled at the Government UP School Kotra. Over 485 Nanhi Kalis from 68 schools participated in this event. What was witnessed was the enthusiastic contribution by these young girl children through creative and colourful art forms (music and dance) and their excited participation in a range of group activities and competitions.

As shared by the TCL team in their feedback to the Nanhi Kali representatives - The visit had been a very alluring experience and it was a pleasure to encourage the very deserving little Nanhi Kalis.
